Racial Justice: What You and Your Family Can Do to Dismantle Racism

Welcome! These pages are dedicated to making available information, resources, and news to help you initiate racial justice programs and actions in your parish, school and community. The six areas of challenge: evangelization, ministry, employment, housing, education, and discipleship, grew out of "Listening Meetings" held throughout the Diocese of Joliet during the fall of 1998. We invite each parish of this diocese and every Catholic to hear the call of these challenges and determine how you might best respond. Over the coming months, the Peace and Social Justice Ministry will communicate, through these pages and other media, ways in which we hope to assist you in your response to this call to Racial Justice.

The first action before us is that of Encuentro 2000, being spearheaded by the Office for Hispanic Ministry. This program seeks to bring an awareness of racism in our midst and our hearts and hopes to begin healing in race relations. You will be able to find news and information regarding this program within these pages. The remainder of this Racial Justice site deals with the question: "What Now?" What do we do once we are aware? What practical steps can we take to undo racism in its personal and systemic manifestations? For each challenge, you will find resources listed on the resource page.. The Peace and Social Justice Office will be facilitating additional actions and programs to assist you in this Transformation to Racial Justice.
