† Saint Margaret Mary Church History

 

July 8, 1947 Father Everard N. Klein appointed to form new parish in the Bishop Noll High School area. He named the new parish after St. Margaret Mary and dedicated it to the Sacred Heart through her intercession. Within a year, various societies, clubs, and organizations emerged.

September 21, 1947 First Masses offered in Bishop Noll High School

September 30, 1948 Sisters of the Holy Cross take over catechism teaching

October 15, 1950 As a site on the high school campus was made available to the parish, ground breaking began for the new church.

July 15, 1951 Bishop Pursley layed the cornerstone.

August 24, 1952 First Mass in Church

September 21, 1952 Archbishop Noll presided at the dedication.

June 15, 1954 Ground broken for a new Rectory.

May 22, 1955 Rectory blessing ceremony held.

October 17, 1957 Bishop Andrew G. Grutka administered the Sacrament of Confirmation and blessed the electronic bells.

June 4, 1961 Father Everard Klein celebrated his Silver Jubilee in the Priesthood.

March 17, 1963 Father Everard N. Klein invested as Papal Chamberlain with the title of Monsignor.

September 14, 1966 Monsignor Ferdinand Melevage appointed second parish priest.

April 11, 1967 The church sanctuary was redesigned so the altar and sacrament orientations complied with the changes issued by the Second Vatican Council.

1971 The Parish Hall and Kitchen were renovated in January. Father William Spranger was appointed third priest on July 31.

 

October 15, 1972 25th Anniversary Celebration of St. Margaret Mary Church.

June 28, 1979 Father Murphy appointed fourth priest. Under Father Murphy's leadership, the Church and Rectory interiors and exteriors were totally refurbished.

August 26, 1982 Father Albert Zimmerman appointed fifth priest.

1982-1986 Father Joseph M. Pawlowski appointed sixth priest.

1986-1991 †Father Joseph LaMere appointed seventh priest to serve the church. *Father LaMere entered into eternal life presiding over Mass. Virtually all parishioners took his manner of passing as a signal grace for himself and for all at St. Margaret Mary.

1991-1993 Father Stephen G. Gibson appointed eighth priest. Father Gibson instituted the first Spanish Mass to serve the growing Hispanic population. Father Gibson began St. Margaret Mary Holy Hours of Reparation

1993-1996 †Monsignor Joseph Viater appointed ninth priest.

June 1994 †Father Viater granted permission for the World Apostolate of Fatima to hold weekly Holy Hours at St. Margaret Mary Church

1997-present Father Matthew C. Iwuji, JUD appointed tenth priest. Father Iwuji began First Friday Devotions to the Sacred Heart

August 15, 1998 Father Matthew C. Iwuji granted permission to the St. Margaret Mary Laboratory for Automotive Mariological Behaviour as resident internet webmaster for the Saint Margaret Mary Church Website in English, Spanish, and French

January 24,1999 Father Iwuji and St. Margaret Mary Church hosted the First Annual Ecumenical Prayer Service sponsored by the Calumet Region Churches

February 7, 1999 Father Iwuji started the First Saturday Devotions to the Mother of God
